Hi there, I'm Ivonne
If someone would have asked me six months ago, where I was in my faith, I would have had a hard time articulating what precisely I believed. I knew I believed in one God, I knew God to be omnipotent, omniscient, and loving. I knew Jesus walked this earth and there were claims of him being the son of God, but my knowledge and belief in that was nebulous at best. My studies in philosophy and feminism provided me a lens to critically see the world. Examining paradigms and the assumptions that comprise them is a great skill and a strength. However, it became my barrier to my faith. It became my reason to walk right up to the line by saying I believe in God, but not examining it further by refusing to read the bible because it was written by a bunch of men who lived long ago in a culture that did not value women. I didn't read the bible because it was used to justify the systematic subjugation of an entire race.
I refused to call myself a Christian because I didn't understand what all of that meant. I refused to become a member of a church we attended because all of the "church talk" sounded bewildering to me. The language used rarely resonated. The people were nice enough but still I felt like a fish out of water. For a variety of reasons, we stopped going to church.
On January 1, 2017 my husband of 15 years told me he needed to go to church. He was willing to try another church and I agreed. We attended NewSpring Church at the end of January and have continued ever since. The experience has been life altering to say the least.
"Crossed the Line" is a metaphor for finally calling myself a Christian and accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior. I journal quite a bit about the message from a sermon or scripture that I read and am trying to apply or understand.
This blog is dedicated to sharing my thoughts, conundrums, and epiphanies as I actively seek to strengthen my relationship with God. My hope is that it inspires someone to do the same.
Please note: All writing, photography, and art are my creations unless otherwise stated. I don't mind these being shared so long as credit is given and linked back to this site.
